Excessive salt intake over a prolonged period causes significant nutritive changes, leading to salt retention, dropsies, edemas, and blood alterations, resulting in anemia and leucocytosis. Retention of waste materials in tissues leads to gout-like symptoms. Proven to be effective for intermittent fever, anemia, chlorosis, and various alimentary and skin disorders. Notable debility, especially in the morning. Coldness and emaciation, particularly in the neck. Prone to colds, dry mucous membranes, and a constrictive sensation throughout the body. Weakness and weariness. Hypersensitive to influences. Conditions include hyperthyroidism, goitre, Addison’s disease, and diabetes.

Mind: Disease from psychic causes like grief, fright, and anger. Depression in chronic diseases, aggravated by consolation. Irritability, anger over trifles, and a desire to be alone to cry. Tears with laughter.

Head: Throbbing and blinding headaches, especially in the morning, after menstruation, and from sunrise to sunset. Anemic headache in schoolgirls; nervous, discouraged, and broken down. Chronic, semi-lateral, congestive headaches, with pale face, nausea, and vomiting. Periodic and related to eye strain or menstruation. Numbness and tingling in lips, tongue, and nose before the headache, relieved by sleep. Frontal sinus inflammation (sinusitis).

Eyes: Bruised feeling with headache, especially in schoolchildren due to eye strain. Heavy eyelids, weak and stiff muscles. Letters run together, seeing sparks and zigzag appearances around objects. Burning eyes, difficulty reading or writing. Lachrymal duct stricture with muco-pus. Swollen eyelids (blepharitis), and wet appearance with tears streaming down the face when coughing. Asthenopia due to weak internal recti muscles. Pain in the eyes when looking down, incipient cataract (Sec.).

Ears: Roaring and ringing noises (tinnitus).

Nose: Severe, fluent coryza lasting one to three days, followed by nasal obstruction. Thin, watery discharge like raw egg white. Violent sneezing and coryza. Effective in stopping colds starting with sneezing. Loss of smell and taste, internal nasal soreness, and dryness.

Face: Oily and shiny complexion. Earthy appearance and fever blisters.

Mouth: Frothy tongue coating with bubbles on the side. Dry sensation, scorbutic gums, numbness, tingling in tongue, lips, and nose. Vesicles and burning in tongue, sensation of a hair on it. Eruptions around the mouth and pearl-like vesicles on lips (herpes labialis). Dry, ulcerated, and cracked lips and corners. Deep crack in the lower lip. Mapped tongue (Ars., Rhus-t., Tarax.). Loss of taste, large vesicle on lower lip, swelling and burning, intense thirst.

Stomach: Hungry but losing weight (Iod.). Heartburn with palpitations, unquenchable thirst, sweating while eating. Craving for salt, aversion to bread, slimy foods like oysters, and fats. Throbbing in the pit of the stomach and sticking sensation in the cardiac orifice.

Abdomen: Cutting pain, distention, and pain in the abdominal ring when coughing.

Rectum: Burning and stitching pains after stool. Contracted, torn, bleeding anus. Constipation with dry, crumbling stool (Am-m., Mag-m.). Painless, copious diarrhea preceded by pinching abdominal pain.

Urinary: Pain after urination (Sars.). Increased, involuntary urination when walking or coughing. Long wait for urination if others are present (Hep., Mur-ac.).

Male: Emission even after coitus, impotence with retarded emission.

Female: Irregular, usually profuse menses. Dry vagina, acrid, watery leucorrhea. Bearing down pains worse in the morning (Sep.), prolapsus uteri with cutting in the urethra. Ineffectual labor pains, suppressed menses (follow with Kali-c.), hot during menses.

Respiratory: Cough from stomach tickling, stitches in liver, urine spurting (Caust., Squil.). Chest stitches, cough with bursting head pain, shortness of breath, especially when going upstairs (Calc.), whooping cough with lachrymation.

Heart: Tachycardia, cold sensation in the heart, constricted feeling in heart and chest, fluttering, palpitating, intermittent pulse. Heart pulsations shake the body, intermits when lying down.

Extremities: Back pain with desire for firm support (Rhus- 1., Sep.), accelerated circulation with movement, hot and perspiring palms. Weak arms, legs, and knees. Hangnails, dryness, and cracking around nails. Numbness and tingling in fingers and lower extremities, weak ankles. Painful hamstring contraction (Caust.), cracking joints with motion, cold legs with head, chest, and stomach congestion.

Sleep: Sleepy in the forenoon, nervous jerking during sleep, dreams of robbers, sleeplessness from grief.

Fever: Chill between 9 and 11 a.m., violent thirst with fever. Fever blisters, marked body coldness, and continuous chilliness. Hydremia in chronic malaria with weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, etc. Sweating with every exertion.

Skin: Greasy, oily, especially on hairy parts. Dry eruptions, particularly on the scalp margin and joint bends. Fever blisters, urticaria with itching and burning, crusty eruptions in limb bends, scalp margin, and behind ears (intertrigo) (Caust.). Warts on palms, eczema; raw, red, inflamed, worse with salt, at seashore. Affects hair follicles, alopecia, hives, itching after exertion. Greasy skin.

Modalities: Worse with noise, music, warm room, lying down, around 10 a.m., at the seashore, mental exertion, consolation, heat, talking. Better with open air, cold bathing, skipping meals, lying on the right side, pressure against the back, tight clothing.

Relationship: Complementary to Apis, Sep., Ign. Compare with Aqua marina (sea water plasma), Sal marinum (sea salt), Natrium selenicum, Natrium silicicum. Antidotes: Ars., Phos., Spir-n-d.

Dose: Twelfth to thirtieth and higher potencies, infrequent dosage often yields brilliant results.
