EUPHORBIA LATHYRISEUPHORBIA LATHYRIS

(Gopher Plant, Caper Spurge)

Euph-l.

The fresh milky juice is extremely acrid on the skin and the fruit is highly purgative and poisonous. The juice causes redness, itching, pimples, and sometimes gangrene. These symptoms indicate its use for erysipelas and Poison oak. Rheumatic pains occur during rest, with paralytic weakness of joints.

Mind: Delirium and hallucinations, stupor, coma.

Eyes: Almost closed due to edema of lids.

Nose: Very inflamed nose tip externally, sensitive and edematous mucous membranes with ulceration.

Face: Initially, a ruddy glow on cheeks, later a death-like pallor with cold sweat beads on the forehead. The face is red, puffed, and suppurating in spots. Erythema starts on the face, extends to hairy parts, and then spreads over the body in eight days, with glossy, rough, edematous eruptions that burn and smart, worsened by touch and cold air, but relieved in a closed room and by sweet oil applications. Fine, bran-like peeling. Sensation of cobwebs. Stinging, smarting, and burning of the face when touched.

Mouth: Tongue coated, slimy; acrid taste. Breath cold, musty odor.

Stomach: Nausea and vomiting of copious clear water with white, gelatinous lumps.

Rectum: Drastic purgation from large doses; mild laxative effect from smaller doses, followed by obstinate constipation weeks later. Stools contain white, transparent, gelatinous mucus, later mingled with blood.

Urinary: Copious urine flow.

Male: Scrotum inflammation resulting in deep acrid ulcers, with intense itching and burning, worsened by touching and washing.

Respiratory: Labored breathing. Cold, musty breath. Cough starts as hacking, then becomes paroxysmal like whooping cough, ending in diarrhea and vomiting with sleepiness between paroxysms.

Heart: Weak and fluttering heart action. Pulse 120, full, bounding, somewhat irregular.

Sleep: Restlessness at night with disturbed sleep and anxious dreams.

Fever: Increased temperature. Body bathed in profuse sweat, standing out like beads on the forehead, later turning into cold, clammy sweat on the forehead.

Skin: Erythema begins on uncovered parts, face, and spreads over the body; glossy, rough, edematous eruptions that burn and smart. Fine, bran-like peeling follows erythema. Eruptions are rough, scaly, smarting, and burning, forming deep, ragged ulcers when scratched; skin around ulcers remains red.

Modalities: Worse with touch and cold air; better in a closed room and with sweet oil application.

Relationship: Antidoted by Rhus-t. (skin symptoms); Verat. (vomiting, purging, cough, and coma).

Dose: Third to thirtieth potency.EUPHORBIA LATHYRIS

selection of the potency

  1. Individualization:

    • Homeopathy is based on the principle of treating the individual, not just the disease. The unique symptoms and characteristics of the person are crucial in determining the most suitable potency.
  2. Intensity of Symptoms:

    • The intensity of the symptoms guides the choice of potency. If the symptoms are intense and acute, a lower potency (e.g., 6C, 30C) might be considered. For chronic conditions with less intensity, higher potencies (e.g., 200C, 1M) may be appropriate.
  3. Sensitivity of the Patient:

    • Some individuals are more sensitive to homeopathic remedies, while others may require higher potencies. The practitioner considers the patient’s sensitivity when selecting the potency.
  4. Acute vs. Chronic Conditions:

    • Lower potencies are often used for acute conditions, while higher potencies may be considered for chronic or long-standing issues.
  5. Previous Response to Potencies:

    • The patient’s response to previous homeopathic treatments helps guide the choice of potency. If a particular potency has been effective in the past, it may be repeated or adjusted as needed.
  6. Vital Force and Susceptibility:

    • Homeopathy views illness as a disturbance in the vital force. The practitioner assesses the patient’s overall vitality and susceptibility to determine the appropriate potency.
  7. Aggravation or Amelioration:

    • The direction of the symptom response (aggravation or amelioration) after taking a remedy can influence the choice of potency.
  8. Miasmatic Considerations:

    • In classical homeopathy, the concept of miasms (inherited disease tendencies) is considered. The practitioner take this into account when selecting the potency.
  9. Practitioner Experience:

    • The experience and preference of the homeopathic practitioner play a role. Some practitioners may have success with certain potencies based on their clinical experience.

Medicine images use for reference only selection of homeopathic medicine depends on the individual’s specific symptoms and overall constitution. Moreover, homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that treats the individual as a whole. In addition to addressing the physical symptoms, it takes into account the emotional and mental state of the person.
