MERCURIUS CORROSIVUSMERCURIUS CORROSIVUS

(Corrosive Sublimate)

Merc-c.

This salt excels in treating tenesmus of the rectum, which is incessant and not relieved by stool, often involving the bladder as well. It is used for Bright’s disease, gonorrhea in the second stage with continuous tenesmus, and slowly destroys the kidneys’ secreting portions. It’s effective for albuminuria in early pregnancy (use Phos. later and at full term).

Head: Delirium, stupor, frontal pain, head congestion with burning cheeks, and drawing pain in the skull’s periosteum.

Eyes: Pain behind the eyeballs as if forced out, phlyctenulae, deep corneal ulcers, severe photophobia, acrid lachrymation, and iritis (ordinary or syphilitic, used with atropin locally). Severe night pain, burning, shooting, tearing, minimal pus formation, muddy-colored iris, thick and unresponsive to light. Also treats retinitis albuminuric, ophthalmia neonatorum, and severe burning, soreness of eyes with red, excoriated lids (blepharitis).

Ears: Violent pulsations, fetid pus (otorrhea).

Nose: Excessive coryza, ozena with septum perforation (Kali-bi.), rawness, smarting in nostrils, post-nasal swelling, dry, red mucous membrane with bloody mucus.

Face: Swollen, red, puffy, black swollen lips, sordes, and facial neuralgia within the bones.

Mouth: Loose teeth, purple, swollen, spongy gums (scorbutic), swollen, inflamed tongue (glossitis), salivation, pyorrhea, ptyalism, salty and bitter taste.

Throat: Red, swollen, painful, intensely inflamed, swollen uvula, painful swallowing, severe post-nasal pain radiating to ears, burning pain with great swelling, worse with slight external pressure. All glands around thorax swollen.

Stomach: Incessant, green, bilious vomiting, very sensitive epigastrium.

Abdomen: Bruised sensation, painful caecal region and transverse colon (intussusception, ulcerative colitis), bloated, very painful to touch.

Rectum: Dysentery with incessant tenesmus not relieved by stool. Hot, bloody, slimy, offensive stool with cutting pains and shreds of mucous membrane.

Urinary: Intense burning in the urethra (urethritis), hot, burning, scanty or suppressed urine, bloody, greenish discharge, albuminous. Tenesmus of bladder, stabbing pain extending up the urethra into the bladder (cystitis), perspiration after micturition.

Male: Enormously swollen penis and testicles (balanitis, orchitis), chancres with phagedenic appearance (syphilis), gonorrhea with red, swollen urethral orifice, sore and hot glans, greenish, thick discharge.

Respiratory: Pain in the larynx as if cut with a knife, aphonia, cough with hemoptysis, rapid and intermittent pulse, stitches through the side of the chest.

Fever: Chilly from slightest exposure, profuse perspiration with cold surfaces.

Modalities: Worse in the evening, at night, and from acids. Better while at rest.

Relationship: Compare with Ars., Lach., Leonurus cardiaca (Mother-wort) which influences pelvic organs, allays spasm, nervous irritability, promotes secretion, and reduces febrile excitement. It’s valuable for suppressed menses and lochia, dysentery, vomiting, severe abdominal pains, and violent thirst. Also, compare with Monsonia ovata (an African plant used for dysentery in material doses).

Antidote: Calcium sulphide is antidotal to Bichloride poisoning. Use intravenous injection of 7 1/2 grains in 7 1/2 ozs. boiled water.

Dose: Sixth potency. In solution 1:1000, hypodermically injected under the conjunctiva for choroiditis with progressive myopia to immediately stop severe aching pain behind the eyeballs (Dr. G. D. Hallet).

selection of the potency

  1. Individualization:

    • Homeopathy is based on the principle of treating the individual, not just the disease. The unique symptoms and characteristics of the person are crucial in determining the most suitable potency.
  2. Intensity of Symptoms:

    • The intensity of the symptoms guides the choice of potency. If the symptoms are intense and acute, a lower potency (e.g., 6C, 30C) might be considered. For chronic conditions with less intensity, higher potencies (e.g., 200C, 1M) may be appropriate.
  3. Sensitivity of the Patient:

    • Some individuals are more sensitive to homeopathic remedies, while others may require higher potencies. The practitioner considers the patient’s sensitivity when selecting the potency.
  4. Acute vs. Chronic Conditions:

    • Lower potencies are often used for acute conditions, while higher potencies may be considered for chronic or long-standing issues.
  5. Previous Response to Potencies:

    • The patient’s response to previous homeopathic treatments helps guide the choice of potency. If a particular potency has been effective in the past, it may be repeated or adjusted as needed.
  6. Vital Force and Susceptibility:

    • Homeopathy views illness as a disturbance in the vital force. The practitioner assesses the patient’s overall vitality and susceptibility to determine the appropriate potency.
  7. Aggravation or Amelioration:

    • The direction of the symptom response (aggravation or amelioration) after taking a remedy can influence the choice of potency.
  8. Miasmatic Considerations:

    • In classical homeopathy, the concept of miasms (inherited disease tendencies) is considered. The practitioner take this into account when selecting the potency.
  9. Practitioner Experience:

    • The experience and preference of the homeopathic practitioner play a role. Some practitioners may have success with certain potencies based on their clinical experience.

Medicine images use for reference only selection of homeopathic medicine depends on the individual’s specific symptoms and overall constitution. Moreover, homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that treats the individual as a whole. In addition to addressing the physical symptoms, it takes into account the emotional and mental state of the person. Consequently, it’s crucial to consult with a qualified homeopathic practitioner for personalized treatment.
