DULCAMARADulcamara

(Bitter-sweet)

Dulc.
Hot days and cold nights at the end of summer make Dulcamara effective, especially for symptoms related to damp weather, colds from wet exposure, and diarrhea. It targets the skin, glands, and digestive organs; mucous membranes secrete more while the skin is inactive. Rheumatic issues caused by damp cold worsen with cold changes and improve with movement. Problems arise from sitting on cold, damp ground, causing icy coldness, one-sided spasms with speechlessness, paralysis of single parts, and congestive headache with neuralgia and a dry nose. Common in patients living or working in damp, cold basements (Nat-s.). Eruptions on the hands, arms, or face may appear around menstruation.

Head: Mental confusion and occipital pain rising from the neck (meningitis). Headache eased by conversation. Rejects requested items. Chilly, heavy, aching back of head during cold weather. Tinea capitis, thick brown crusts, bleeding when scratched. Buzzing in the head.

Eyes: Colds often settle in the eyes, causing thick, yellow discharge and granular lids (blepharitis, ophthalmia). Hay fever with profuse, watery discharge worsens in open air.

Ears: Otalgia, buzzing, stitches, and swollen parotids (mumps, parotiditis). Middle ear catarrh (otitis media, otorrhea) (Merc-d., Kali-m.).

Nose: Dry coryza with complete nasal blockage, especially in cold rain. Thick, yellow mucus and bloody crusts. Profuse coryza. Needs to keep the nose warm as cold air blocks it. Coryza in newborns.

Face: Tearing pain in the cheek extending to the ear, orbit, and jaw, preceded by coldness and intense hunger. Humid eruptions and facial neuralgia worsen with slight cold exposure.

Mouth: Tenacious, soapy saliva. Dry, rough tongue with a scraping throat after damp weather exposure. Cold sores on the lips.

Stomach: Vomiting of white, sticky mucus, aversion to food, burning thirst for cold drinks, heartburn, and nausea with stool desire. Chills during vomiting.

Abdomen: Colic from cold, affecting the umbilical region. Cutting pain around the navel and swollen inguinal glands (Merc.).

Rectum: Green, watery, slimy, bloody mucus, especially in summers when the weather suddenly turns cold; results from damp, cold weather and suppressed eruptions.

Urinary: Frequent urination when chilled. Painful urination and bladder catarrh (cystitis) from cold. Urine has thick, mucoid, purulent sediment (pyuria). Ischuria from wading in cold water with bare feet.

Female: Suppressed menses from cold or dampness. Rash appears before menstruation or with sexual excitement. Dysmenorrhea with blotches, engorged and sore breasts, sensitive to cold.

Respiratory: Cough worsens in cold, wet weather, with free expectoration and larynx tickling. Hoarse, spasmodic cough, whooping cough with excessive mucus, winter coughs, dry and teasing. Asthma with dyspnea and loose, rattling cough worsens in wet weather. Prolonged coughing to expel phlegm. Cough after exertion. Adenitis.

Back: Stiff neck and pain in the small of the back (lumbosacral region), especially after stooping. Stiffness and lameness across the neck and shoulders after cold and wet exposure (cervical spondylosis).

Extremities: Paralysis and icy cold feet. Warts on hands, sweaty palms, and shin bone pain. Rheumatism alternates with diarrhea and follows acute skin eruptions.

Fever: Dry, burning heat, chills towards evening, mostly in the back. Icy coldness with pain, dry heat with burning skin, and chills with thirst.

Skin: Pruritus worsens in cold, wet weather. Herpes zoster, pemphigus, swollen and indurated glands from cold exposure, vesicular eruptions, sensitive and bleeding ulcers, small boils, red spots, urticaria from exposure or sour stomach. Humid eruptions on the face, genitals, hands, etc. Large, smooth warts on the face and palms. Anasarca and thick, brown-yellow crusts that bleed when scratched.

Modalities: Worse at night, in cold, damp, rainy weather. Better with movement and external warmth.

Relationship: Antidotes: Camph., Cupr. Complementary: Bar-c. Incompatible: Bell., Lach. Compare: Pimpinella saxifraga-Bibernell for sensitivity to drafts, pain and coldness in the occiput and nape, body weakness, heavy head, drowsiness, lumbago, stiff neck, pain from nape to shoulder, and chilliness. Rhus-t., Cimic., Calc., Puls., Bry, Nat-s.

Dose: Second to thirtieth potency.DULCAMARA

selection of the potency

  1. Individualization:

    • Homeopathy is based on the principle of treating the individual, not just the disease. The unique symptoms and characteristics of the person are crucial in determining the most suitable potency.
  2. Intensity of Symptoms:

    • The intensity of the symptoms guides the choice of potency. If the symptoms are intense and acute, a lower potency (e.g., 6C, 30C) might be considered. For chronic conditions with less intensity, higher potencies (e.g., 200C, 1M) may be appropriate.
  3. Sensitivity of the Patient:

    • Some individuals are more sensitive to homeopathic remedies, while others may require higher potencies. The practitioner considers the patient’s sensitivity when selecting the potency.
  4. Acute vs. Chronic Conditions:

    • Lower potencies are often used for acute conditions, while higher potencies may be considered for chronic or long-standing issues.
  5. Previous Response to Potencies:

    • The patient’s response to previous homeopathic treatments helps guide the choice of potency. If a particular potency has been effective in the past, it may be repeated or adjusted as needed.
  6. Vital Force and Susceptibility:

    • Homeopathy views illness as a disturbance in the vital force. The practitioner assesses the patient’s overall vitality and susceptibility to determine the appropriate potency.
  7. Aggravation or Amelioration:

    • The direction of the symptom response (aggravation or amelioration) after taking a remedy can influence the choice of potency.
  8. Miasmatic Considerations:

    • In classical homeopathy, the concept of miasms (inherited disease tendencies) is considered. The practitioner take this into account when selecting the potency.
  9. Practitioner Experience:

    • The experience and preference of the homeopathic practitioner play a role. Some practitioners may have success with certain potencies based on their clinical experience.

Medicine images use for reference only selection of homeopathic medicine depends on the individual’s specific symptoms and overall constitution. Moreover, homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that treats the individual as a whole. In addition to addressing the physical symptoms, it takes into account the emotional and mental state of the person. Consequently, it’s crucial to consult with a qualified homeopathic practitioner for personalized treatment.
