VIPERA BERUS VIPERA BERUS

(The German Viper)

Vip.

Viper poisoning leads to a temporary increase in reflexes, followed by paresis and paraplegia in the lower extremities that ascends. This resembles Landry’s acute ascending paralysis. It specifically affects the kidneys, causing hematuria and cardiac dropsy.

Indicated for venous inflammation with significant swelling and a bursting sensation; hepatomegaly; menopause-related issues; edema of the glottis; polyneuritis; and poliomyelitis.

Face: Swelling is excessive; lips and tongue are swollen, livid, and protruding. The tongue appears dry, brown, or black, making speech difficult.

Abdomen: Severe pain in the enlarged liver, accompanied by jaundice and fever, radiating to the shoulder and hip.

Extremities: The patient must elevate the limbs; if they hang down, they feel as if they will burst, causing unbearable pain (phlegmasia alba dolens). Varicose veins and acute phlebitis are present. The veins are swollen and sensitive, with bursting pain and severe cramps in the lower extremities.

Skin: Livid, with large patches peeling; lymphangioma, boils, and carbuncles accompanied by a bursting sensation, relieved by elevation.

Relationship: Pelius berus-Adder (prostration, faintness, faltering pulse, yellow skin, abdominal pain, arm and tongue swelling, right eye swelling, giddiness, nervousness, chest compression, difficulty breathing, aching and stiffness in limbs, thirst). Ser-ang. (heart and kidney conditions, compensation failure, and risk of asystole).

selection of the potency

  1. Individualization:

    • Homeopathy is based on the principle of treating the individual, not just the disease. The unique symptoms and characteristics of the person are crucial in determining the most suitable potency.
  2. Intensity of Symptoms:

    • The intensity of the symptoms guides the choice of potency. If the symptoms are intense and acute, a lower potency (e.g., 6C, 30C) might be considered. For chronic conditions with less intensity, higher potencies (e.g., 200C, 1M) may be appropriate.
  3. Sensitivity of the Patient:

    • Some individuals are more sensitive to homeopathic remedies, while others may require higher potencies. The practitioner considers the patient’s sensitivity when selecting the potency.
  4. Acute vs. Chronic Conditions:

    • Lower potencies are often used for acute conditions, while higher potencies may be considered for chronic or long-standing issues.
  5. Previous Response to Potencies:

    • The patient’s response to previous homeopathic treatments helps guide the choice of potency. If a particular potency has been effective in the past, it may be repeated or adjusted as needed.
  6. Vital Force and Susceptibility:

    • Homeopathy views illness as a disturbance in the vital force. The practitioner assesses the patient’s overall vitality and susceptibility to determine the appropriate potency.
  7. Aggravation or Amelioration:

    • The direction of the symptom response (aggravation or amelioration) after taking a remedy can influence the choice of potency.
  8. Miasmatic Considerations:

    • In classical homeopathy, the concept of miasms (inherited disease tendencies) is considered. The practitioner take this into account when selecting the potency.
  9. Practitioner Experience:

    • The experience and preference of the homeopathic practitioner play a role. Some practitioners may have success with certain potencies based on their clinical experience.
