SULPHURSULPHUR

(Sublimated Sulphur)

Sulph.

This is a significant anti-psoric remedy as per Hahnemann. Its action moves outward from within, with a preference for the skin, causing heat, burning, and itching, which worsen with the warmth of the bed. Symptoms include weakness due to tissue relaxation, eruptions of heat, dislike of water, dry hair and skin, red openings, a sinking feeling in the stomach around 11 a.m., and disturbed sleep patterns. Patients often find standing uncomfortable. Sulphur is suited for individuals prone to skin issues, who are dirty and resist washing. When well-chosen remedies fail, especially in acute conditions, Sulphur can stimulate the body’s healing response. It is useful for relapsing ailments and has a general tendency towards offensive discharges. People treated with Sulphur often have flushed faces, bright red lips, and sweat easily. It is valuable for initiating treatment in chronic cases and for concluding acute ones.

Mind: Patients are very forgetful, struggle to think clearly, and have delusions, believing they are wealthy or that rags are beautiful. They are often busy yet exhibit childish irritability in adults, showing selfishness and no concern for others. There is religious melancholy and laziness, with aversion to work. They may imagine causing harm by giving the wrong items to others. Sulphur patients are typically irritable, thin, weak, and depressed, even with a good appetite.

Head: Constant heat on the top of the head, heaviness, pressure in the temples, and throbbing headaches that worsen when stooping and are accompanied by vertigo. Periodic sick headaches. The scalp is dry with hair falling out, especially after washing, and itching that worsens with scratching.

Eyes: Burning ulcers on the edges of the eyelids, halos around lights, and heat and burning sensations in the eyes. Black specks may appear in vision, and there is chronic ophthalmia with itching and burning.

Ears: Whizzing sounds, sensitivity to odors, and deafness, often preceded by acute hearing sensitivity.

Nose: Herpes on the nose, stuffed nose indoors, imaginary foul smells, red and scabby nostrils, and chronic dry catarrh with bleeding.

Mouth: Dry, red lips, burning sensation, bitter taste in the morning, and throbbing gum pain. The tongue is white with red tips and borders.

Throat: Sensations of pressure or a lump in the throat, burning, redness, and dryness are common. A feeling of a ball rising in the throat (globus hystericus) may occur.

Stomach: Either a loss of appetite or excessive hunger, with putrid belching. Food tastes too salty, and the patient drinks more than they eat. Milk disagrees, and there is a strong desire for sweets. There is a burning sensation and pressure in the stomach, along with weakness around 11 a.m., prompting the need for food.

Abdomen: Very sensitive to touch, with a raw, sore feeling internally. There may be a sensation of movement in the abdomen, pain around the liver, and colic after drinking.

Rectum: Itching and burning in the anus; hemorrhoids due to abdominal fullness. Frequent, unsuccessful urge to pass stool; hard, knotty, insufficient stools. Child fears passing stool due to pain. Redness around the anus with itching. Painless morning diarrhea, forcing him out of bed, with rectal prolapse. Hemorrhoids with discharge and belching.

Urinary: Frequent urination, especially at night. Bedwetting, often in scrofulous, untidy children. Burning in the urethra during urination, lasting afterward (urethritis). Mucus and pus in the urine, causing soreness in affected areas (Bright’s disease). Urgent need to urinate. Large amounts of colorless urine.

Male: Stitches in the penis. Involuntary emissions. Itching in the genitals before bed. Genitals feel cold, relaxed, and weak (impotence).

Female: Itching in the external genitals. Burning in the vagina. Profuse, offensive sweating. Menstruation is delayed, short, scanty, and difficult; blood is thick, black, and irritating. Menstrual headache. Burning, irritating vaginal discharge. Cracked, burning nipples.

Respiratory: Chest feels tight and burns. Difficulty breathing; prefers open windows. Loss of voice. Heat sensation in the chest. Red-brown spots on the chest. Loose cough (bronchitis), worse when talking or in the morning, with green, purulent, sweetish phlegm. Excessive mucus (pneumonia). Chest feels heavy; stitches and palpitations, as if the heart is too large. Pleuritic effusions. Use Tinctura Sulphuris. Sharp pains radiate to the back, worse when lying on the back or taking deep breaths (pleurisy). Hot flashes in the chest, rising to the head. Chest feels heavy, like a weight is pressing down. Shortness of breath at night, relieved by sitting up (asthma, hydrothorax). Pulse is faster in the morning than in the evening.

Back: Drawing pain between the shoulders. Stiffness in the neck. Sensation of vertebrae slipping over each other.

Extremities: Trembling hands. Hot, sweaty hands. Rheumatic pain in the left shoulder. Heaviness and a weak feeling. Rheumatic gout with itching. Burning in the soles and hands at night. Sweat in the armpits smells like garlic. Drawing and tearing in arms and hands. Stiff knees and ankles. Cannot stand up straight; slouching. Ganglion.

Sleep: Talks, jerks, and twitches while sleeping. Vivid dreams. Wakes up singing. Frequently wakes up suddenly and is fully awake. Light sleeper, awakened by slight noises. Cannot sleep between 2 and 5 a.m.

Fever: Frequent hot flashes. Intense heat surges throughout the body. Dry skin and intense thirst. Night sweats on the neck and back of the head. Sweating of single body parts. Foul-smelling sweat. Remittent fever type.

Skin: Dry, scaly, unhealthy skin; even minor injuries become infected. Freckles. Itching and burning, worse with scratching or washing. Pimples, pustules, cracks, hangnails. Skin irritation, especially in folds (Lyc.). Feels like a band around the bones. Skin conditions after local treatments. Itching, especially in warmth or at night, recurring in spring or damp weather.

Modalities: Worse at rest, when standing, in warm beds, washing, bathing, in the morning, at 11 a.m., at night, with alcohol, or periodically. Better in dry, warm weather, lying on the right side, or drawing up affected limbs.

Relationship: Complementary: Aloe; Psor., Acon., Pyrarara (Amazonian fish used for skin issues). Compare: Acon. (Sulph. often follows in acute conditions); Merc. and Calc. are useful after Sulphur, not before. Lyc., Sep., Sars., Puls., Sulphur hydrogenisatum (delirium, mania, asphyxia); Sulphur terebinthinatum (chronic rheumatic arthritis, chorea); Tannicum acidum (nasal hemorrhage, elongated uvula, gargle, constipation). Magnes artificialis (evening hunger, profuse sweating on face, joint pain, rectal constriction post-stool). Magnetis polus articus (anxiety, cold eyes, increased saliva, constipation, drowsiness, trembling, abdominal flatulence). Magnetis polus australis (dry eyelids, easy ankle dislocation, ingrowing toenails, patella ache, shooting soles). Compare in adenoids: Agraphis nutans.

selection of the potency

  1. Individualization:

    • Homeopathy is based on the principle of treating the individual, not just the disease. The unique symptoms and characteristics of the person are crucial in determining the most suitable potency.
  2. Intensity of Symptoms:

    • The intensity of the symptoms guides the choice of potency. If the symptoms are intense and acute, a lower potency (e.g., 6C, 30C) might be considered. For chronic conditions with less intensity, higher potencies (e.g., 200C, 1M) may be appropriate.
  3. Sensitivity of the Patient:

    • Some individuals are more sensitive to homeopathic remedies, while others may require higher potencies. The practitioner considers the patient’s sensitivity when selecting the potency.
  4. Acute vs. Chronic Conditions:

    • Lower potencies are often used for acute conditions, while higher potencies may be considered for chronic or long-standing issues.
  5. Previous Response to Potencies:

    • The patient’s response to previous homeopathic treatments helps guide the choice of potency. If a particular potency has been effective in the past, it may be repeated or adjusted as needed.
  6. Vital Force and Susceptibility:

    • Homeopathy views illness as a disturbance in the vital force. The practitioner assesses the patient’s overall vitality and susceptibility to determine the appropriate potency.
  7. Aggravation or Amelioration:

    • The direction of the symptom response (aggravation or amelioration) after taking a remedy can influence the choice of potency.
  8. Miasmatic Considerations:

    • In classical homeopathy, the concept of miasms (inherited disease tendencies) is considered. The practitioner take this into account when selecting the potency.
  9. Practitioner Experience:

    • The experience and preference of the homeopathic practitioner play a role. Some practitioners may have success with certain potencies based on their clinical experience.

SAFETY INFORMATION

  • Do not exceed the recommended dose by physician
  • Keep out of the reach of children
  • Store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight
  • Maintain half an hour gap between food/drink/any other medicines and homoeopathic medicine
  • Avoid any strong smell in the mouth while taking medicine e.g. camphor, garlic, onion, coffee, hing

Medicine images use for reference only selection of homeopathic medicine depends on the individual’s specific symptoms and overall constitution. Moreover, homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that treats the individual as a whole. In addition to addressing the physical symptoms, it takes into account the emotional and mental state of the person. Consequently, it’s crucial to consult with a qualified homeopathic practitioner for personalized treatment.
