PICRICUM ACIDUMPICRICUM ACIDUM

(Picric Acid, Trinitrophenol)

Pic-ac.

This remedy causes degeneration of the spinal cord, leading to paralysis. It addresses brain fatigue and sexual excitement, likely acting on the generative organs through the lumbar centers of the spinal cord. Symptoms include prostration, weakness, back pain, and a pins-and-needles sensation in the extremities. It is used for neurasthenia (similar to Ox-ac.), muscular debility, a heavy, tired feeling, myelitis with spasms and prostration, writer’s palsy, progressive pernicious anemia, and uremia with complete anuria. A one percent solution on lint is effective for burns until granulation begins. It is associated with a sallow complexion.

Mind: Lacks willpower, disinclined to work. Shows signs of cerebral softening, dementia with prostration, sitting still and listless.

Head: Headaches relieved by tight bandaging. Occipital pain worsens with the slightest mental exertion. Experiences vertigo, tinnitus, boils within the ears, and on the back of the neck, especially after prolonged mental strain and anxiety about failing during exams. Brain fatigue is common.

Eyes: Chronic catarrhal conjunctivitis with copious thick yellow discharge.

Stomach: Bitter taste and aversion to food.

Urinary: Scanty urine with complete anuria, dribbling micturition. Urine contains much indican, granular cylinders, and fatty, degenerated epithelium. Inflammation of kidneys (nephritis) presents with profound weakness, dark, bloody, and scanty urine (hematuria). There is also nocturnal urging.

Male: Profuse emissions followed by great exhaustion without sensual dreams, priapism, and satyriasis. Hard erections cause pain in the testicles that radiates up the cord (orchitis). It is beneficial for prostatic hypertrophy, particularly in less advanced cases.

Female: Pain in the left ovary and leucorrhea before menstruation. Pruritus vulvae.

Extremities: Burning sensation along the spine, great weakness, and a heavy, tired feeling throughout the body, especially in the limbs, which worsens with exertion. Cold feet, unable to get warm. Acute ascending paralysis (hemiplegia).

Modalities: Worse with the slightest exertion, especially mental, after sleep, or in wet weather. A summer or hot weather remedy, with symptoms worsening during this time. Better in cold air, cold water, and with tight pressure.

Relationship: Compare with Ox-ac., Gels., Phos., Sil., Arg-n. (facial palsy and paralysis agitans); Zinc-pic. (facial palsy and paralysis agitans); Ferr-pic. (buzzing in ears, deafness, chronic gout, epistaxis, prostatic troubles); Calc-pic. (boils in and around ears).

selection of the potency

  1. Individualization:

    • Homeopathy is based on the principle of treating the individual, not just the disease. The unique symptoms and characteristics of the person are crucial in determining the most suitable potency.
  2. Intensity of Symptoms:

    • The intensity of the symptoms guides the choice of potency. If the symptoms are intense and acute, a lower potency (e.g., 6C, 30C) might be considered. For chronic conditions with less intensity, higher potencies (e.g., 200C, 1M) may be appropriate.
  3. Sensitivity of the Patient:

    • Some individuals are more sensitive to homeopathic remedies, while others may require higher potencies. The practitioner considers the patient’s sensitivity when selecting the potency.
  4. Acute vs. Chronic Conditions:

    • Lower potencies are often used for acute conditions, while higher potencies may be considered for chronic or long-standing issues.
  5. Previous Response to Potencies:

    • The patient’s response to previous homeopathic treatments helps guide the choice of potency. If a particular potency has been effective in the past, it may be repeated or adjusted as needed.
  6. Vital Force and Susceptibility:

    • Homeopathy views illness as a disturbance in the vital force. The practitioner assesses the patient’s overall vitality and susceptibility to determine the appropriate potency.
  7. Aggravation or Amelioration:

    • The direction of the symptom response (aggravation or amelioration) after taking a remedy can influence the choice of potency.
  8. Miasmatic Considerations:

    • In classical homeopathy, the concept of miasms (inherited disease tendencies) is considered. The practitioner take this into account when selecting the potency.
  9. Practitioner Experience:

    • The experience and preference of the homeopathic practitioner play a role. Some practitioners may have success with certain potencies based on their clinical experience.

Medicine images use for reference only selection of homeopathic medicine depends on the individual’s specific symptoms and overall constitution. Moreover, homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that treats the individual as a whole. In addition to addressing the physical symptoms, it takes into account the emotional and mental state of the person.
