MAGNESIUM SULPHURICUMMAGNESIUM SULPHURICUM

(Epsom Salt)

Mag-s.

This substance prominently affects the skin, urinary, and female symptoms. The purgative effect of Magnesium Sulphate is due to its physical state, preventing its absorption. The true properties of the substance are revealed through attenuation (Percy Wilde).

Head: Apprehension, vertigo, and a heavy head during menses. Burning eyes and tinnitus.

Stomach: Frequent eructations with a taste of bad eggs. Waterbrash.

Urinary: Stitches and burning in the urethra after urination (urethritis). Intermittent and dribbling urine stream. Morning urine is copious and bright yellow, becoming turbid with a red sediment. Greenish urine when passed, clear in large quantities. Diabetes (Ph-ac., Lac-ac., Ars-br.).

Female: Thick leucorrhea, as profuse as menses, with weary pain in the lumbosacral region and thighs during movement. Bleeding between menses (metrorrhagia). Menses return after fourteen days, with thick, black, and profuse discharge. Menses too early, intermittent.

Back: Bruised and ulcerative pain between the shoulders, sensation of a lump as large as a fist, relieved by rubbing. Violent lumbosacral pain, as if bruised, before menstruation.

Extremities: Left arm and foot fall asleep in bed, in the morning after waking.

Fever: Chills from 9 to 10 a.m. Shuddering in the back; alternating heat and chills.

Skin: Itchy pimples over the body. Suppressed itch (Sulph.). Crawling sensation in the tips of the left-hand fingers, relieved by rubbing. Warts. Erysipelas (applied locally as a saturated solution). Dropsy (physiological doses).

Relationship: Adding a small amount of Mag-s. to a morphine hypodermic increases its effectiveness by 50 to 100%.

Physiologic Dosage: Mag-s. is valuable in diagnosing and treating gallstone colic. Taking 2 to 4 teaspoonfuls in hot water at the onset of a colicky attack may stop it.

Epsom salt is a highly effective saline cathartic, causing little pain or nausea when pure. It has minimal effect on intestinal peristalsis, instead causing fluid rush into the intestines, leading to evacuation without irritation. Commonly used with mercurials, antihelmintics, and in poisoning cases, Epsom salt acts within one or two hours, faster when taken in hot water before breakfast. As a mild laxative, a heaping teaspoonful is used; as a cathartic, two to four teaspoonfuls. The taste can be improved with lemon juice and sugar.

External Use: Magnesium sulphate is also used externally in saturated solutions as an antiphlogistic and antipruritic for erysipelas, ivy poisoning, cellulitis, and other local inflammations. Use as a compress saturated with the solution.

Dose: The pure salt to the third potency. Locally 1:4 in water for septic conditions, erysipelas, orchitis, boils, etc.

selection of the potency

  1. Individualization:

    • Homeopathy is based on the principle of treating the individual, not just the disease. The unique symptoms and characteristics of the person are crucial in determining the most suitable potency.
  2. Intensity of Symptoms:

    • The intensity of the symptoms guides the choice of potency. If the symptoms are intense and acute, a lower potency (e.g., 6C, 30C) might be considered. For chronic conditions with less intensity, higher potencies (e.g., 200C, 1M) may be appropriate.
  3. Sensitivity of the Patient:

    • Some individuals are more sensitive to homeopathic remedies, while others may require higher potencies. The practitioner considers the patient’s sensitivity when selecting the potency.
  4. Acute vs. Chronic Conditions:

    • Lower potencies are often used for acute conditions, while higher potencies may be considered for chronic or long-standing issues.
  5. Previous Response to Potencies:

    • The patient’s response to previous homeopathic treatments helps guide the choice of potency. If a particular potency has been effective in the past, it may be repeated or adjusted as needed.
  6. Vital Force and Susceptibility:

    • Homeopathy views illness as a disturbance in the vital force. The practitioner assesses the patient’s overall vitality and susceptibility to determine the appropriate potency.
  7. Aggravation or Amelioration:

    • The direction of the symptom response (aggravation or amelioration) after taking a remedy can influence the choice of potency.
  8. Miasmatic Considerations:

    • In classical homeopathy, the concept of miasms (inherited disease tendencies) is considered. The practitioner take this into account when selecting the potency.
  9. Practitioner Experience:

    • The experience and preference of the homeopathic practitioner play a role. Some practitioners may have success with certain potencies based on their clinical experience.

Medicine images use for reference only selection of homeopathic medicine depends on the individual’s specific symptoms and overall constitution. Moreover, homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that treats the individual as a whole. In addition to addressing the physical symptoms, it takes into account the emotional and mental state of the person. Consequently, it’s crucial to consult with a qualified homeopathic practitioner for personalized treatment.
