KALIUM HYDRIODICUMKALIUM HYDRIODICUM  ( Kali Iodatum )

(Iodide of Potassium)

Kali-i.

The drug produces profuse, watery, acrid coryza, a key symptom, especially with frontal sinus pain. It affects fibrous and connective tissues, causing infiltration and edema. It also causes glandular swellings, purpura, and hemorrhagic diathesis. Syphilis may be indicated in all stages:

 1. Acute form with evening fever, ending with nocturnal perspiration.
 2. Second stage, mucous membranes and skin ulcerate.
 3. Tertiary symptoms; nodes. Use material doses.

It causes diffused sensitiveness (glands, scalp, etc.), and rheumatism in the neck, back, feet, especially heels and soles; worse in cold and wet. Kali-i. in material doses treats fungal diseases (thrush, ringworm, etc.), mimicking syphilis and bacterial diseases like tuberculosis. Symptoms include weight loss and hemoptysis. Tea taster’s cough after inhaling fungus; often improves many chronic ailments even without clear symptoms.

Mind: Sad, anxious; harsh temper. Irritable; head congestion, heat, and throbbing.

Head: Pain through the sides of the head. Violent headache. Cranium swells into a hard lump. Intense pain over the eyes and nose root. Brain feels enlarged. Hard nodes with severe pain; pneumococcic meningitis.

Eyes: Conjunctiva red, injected; profuse lachrymation (conjunctivitis). Syphilitic iritis. Pustular keratitis and chemosis. Bony tumors of the orbit.

Ears: Noises in the ear (tinnitus). Boring ear pain (otalgia).

Nose: Red, swollen. Red nose tip; profuse, acrid, hot, watery discharge. Ozena with perforated septum. Sneezing. Nasal catarrh involving the frontal sinus. Stuffy and dry nose without discharge. Profuse, cool, greenish, non-irritating discharges.

Stomach: Increased saliva. Faintness in the epigastrium. Cold food and drinks, especially milk, aggravate. Marked thirst. Throbbing, painful, burning. Flatulence.

Female: Late, profuse menses. During menses, uterus feels squeezed. Corrosive leucorrhea with subacute womb inflammation in young married women. Fibroid tumors, metritis, sub-involution, hypertrophy, 1x or 1 gr. crude, 3 times a day.

Respiratory: Violent cough; worse in the morning. Pulmonary edema. Raw larynx. Laryngeal edema. Wakes up choking. Expectoration like soap suds, greenish. Pneumonia when hepatization starts. Stitching pains through the lungs to the back. Asthma. Dyspnea on ascending with heart pain. Hydrothorax (Merc-sul.). Pleuritic effusion. Cold travels down to the chest.

Extremities: Severe bone pains. Thickened periosteum, especially the tibia; sensitive to touch (Kali-bi., Asaf.). Rheumatism; pain at night and in damp weather. Joint contractions. Knee rheumatism with effusion. Pain in the lumbosacral region and coccyx. Hip pain causing limping. Sciatica; cannot stay in bed; worse at night and lying on the affected side. Formication in the lower extremities when sitting, better lying down.

Skin: Purple spots (petechiae); worse on legs (erythema nodosum). Acne, hydroa. Small boils. Enlarged, indurated glands. Hives. Rough nodules all over, worse with covering; intense body heat. Fissured anus in infants. Tendency to edematous swellings (eyelids, mouth, uvula, etc.). Acne rosacea.

Modalities: Worse with warm clothing, warm room, at night, and in damp weather. Better with motion and open air.

Relationship: Antidote: Hep.
Compare: Iod., Merc., Sulph., Mez. Chopheenee, a Hindu remedy for syphilitic eruptions, ulcerations, and bone pains. Used in tincture.

Dose: Use the crude drug in material officinal dosage, but remember Dr. Meyhoffer’s statements in his chronic diseases of respiratory organs: “From the moment the drug produces pathogenetic symptoms, it exaggerates the function of the tissue, exhausts the already diminished vitality and hence, instead of stimulating the organic cell in the direction of life, impairs or abolishes its power of contraction. We use, as a rule, the first dilution, 6 to 20 drops a day; if after a week no significant progress is visible, one drop of the tincture of Iod. is added to each hundred of the first dilution. In this way, the mucus tubercles, gummy deposits, and ulcerations resulting therefrom in the larynx undergo a favorable termination in laryngeal syphilis.” When strictly homeopathically indicated, as in acute respiratory infections, the third potency is indicated.

selection of the potency

  1. Individualization:

    • Homeopathy is based on the principle of treating the individual, not just the disease. The unique symptoms and characteristics of the person are crucial in determining the most suitable potency.
  2. Intensity of Symptoms:

    • The intensity of the symptoms guides the choice of potency. If the symptoms are intense and acute, a lower potency (e.g., 6C, 30C) might be considered. For chronic conditions with less intensity, higher potencies (e.g., 200C, 1M) may be appropriate.
  3. Sensitivity of the Patient:

    • Some individuals are more sensitive to homeopathic remedies, while others may require higher potencies. The practitioner considers the patient’s sensitivity when selecting the potency.
  4. Acute vs. Chronic Conditions:

    • Lower potencies are often used for acute conditions, while higher potencies may be considered for chronic or long-standing issues.
  5. Previous Response to Potencies:

    • The patient’s response to previous homeopathic treatments helps guide the choice of potency. If a particular potency has been effective in the past, it may be repeated or adjusted as needed.
  6. Vital Force and Susceptibility:

    • Homeopathy views illness as a disturbance in the vital force. The practitioner assesses the patient’s overall vitality and susceptibility to determine the appropriate potency.
  7. Aggravation or Amelioration:

    • The direction of the symptom response (aggravation or amelioration) after taking a remedy can influence the choice of potency.
  8. Miasmatic Considerations:

    • In classical homeopathy, the concept of miasms (inherited disease tendencies) is considered. The practitioner take this into account when selecting the potency.
  9. Practitioner Experience:

    • The experience and preference of the homeopathic practitioner play a role. Some practitioners may have success with certain potencies based on their clinical experience.

Medicine images use for reference only selection of homeopathic medicine depends on the individual’s specific symptoms and overall constitution. Moreover, homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that treats the individual as a whole.
